I'm not sure you were dealing with the 'real' situation. But that's
what we're talking about isn't it?

I appreciate, that as you saw the situation, you did a nice thing, and
bonded with that person. But I still suspect you're patting yourself on
the back for having "helped" this bum... By many social worker's
arguments, you were one more nail in his coffin. That can be debated on
another forum.

But I'm finding fault with how you perceived the situation. That you
imagined the whole fairytale. I suppose stepping out of your box is
good -- its hard to do, so kudos. But that is all that is to be
celebrated. 1 dollar? A hug? Really 'suckin' the marrow out of the
bone of life, eh? The bum, the dollar, the hug... you should add a car
chase and write a script.

More box-stepping and these illusions might fade.

I'm sorry this is so negative.

Maybe you are the one missing the reality. I dealt with a real situation
in a positive way. I felt more alive because I stepped outside of my
box. That beats sitting on a cushion and taking sarcastic snipes at
other people.

For those 99.9% of us who are never going to become Zen Masters, Zen is
just a tool which can be used to see different perspectives. A youthful
mind sees things from various points of view more easily than someone
used to routine.
I think that is one thing that "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" refers to.
Having a mind that is open to more possibilities.
