From: "ventouxboy" But why work on being happy? Why not just be? Isn't that
what Zen's all about? Peace, Guy.>

Why not work on being happy? What do you have against happiness? The fact
that there are a few people on this list whose goal in life is to be a piece
of cardboard makes me happy. I chuckle when I consider that there is someone
on earth who thinks enlightenment is to have no feelings or sensations or
opinions. It makes me happy to know that whenever anyone mentions that they
are happy, there are a couple of folks who jump out of the woodwork to warn
against being happy. Why not just be? Indeed!

Why don't you commit suicide? Why live? What are you living for? What is the
point of your existence? Certainly living so that you can imitate a wooden
plank is a waste of resources. A wooden plank has already achieved the
realization that you seek. So has a cardboard box.

Kill yourself, and you will achieve the total void that you seek. You will
"just be" a decomposing pile, instead of living to become one. In fact, the
total nothingness that you strive for is probably what you will feel when a
bullet is exploding through your brain. Don't just pretend to be nothing
when you can be nothing. Don't just stand a step away from living when you
can embrace what you really want. Become one with the compost.
