Dear All,

To cite a source that may be relevant to the so called 'intelligent discussion' thread: ( D.T. Suzuki, 'Zen Buddhism', Doubleday Anchor Books, New York, 1956)

'Hearing this [referring to a gatha on the benefits of sitting] the sixth patriarch remarked "That is no enlightenment but leads one into a state of bondage. Listen to my gatha:
"I, Hui Neng, know no device,
My thoughts are not suppressed:  (my underlining)
The objective world ever stirs the mind,
And what is the use of 'maturing enlightenment' [a reference to the claims made in the sitting gatha].

I am becoming increasingly concerned at the attitude of the moderator with regards to this group. While I certainly do not agree with many, if not most, of the postings here, at least they do not display the sycophancy which destroys any sense of truth which is exhibited on some other forums. If we are wrong, and we see that we are wrong from replies to our postings then that can surely only benefit us in our personal development. -I, myself, had such a wake up call a couple of weeks ago. Our reaction to other posts, however wild and psychologically fragile they may be, can surely only help us to define our own practice and understanding. If this forum degenerates into a Brad Warner/Zatoichi fanclub we are surely all diminished by this.
