I would like people on this list to be civil to everyone else on this list

...again I agree. I note, however, that, many times, this has not been how you yourself have behaved (check among the previous postings if seeking a reference).

I also do not see why asking people to discuss Zen in a literate manner is a bad thing. My "attitude" is that I would like to see literate postings.

Still no argument from me here.

Everyone else has learned Zen mostly from Zen books. So any meaningful discussion should include those books. Otherwise, it is merely subjective nonsense.

Unfortunately many of the 'Zen books' are also filled with 'subjective nonsense'. My point is that, when we discuss our own 'subjective nonsense', we hold up our beliefs to objective scrutiny from others and thus may benefit. I gave my own case as an example - it was quite a breakthrough for me to discover how easily my sense of 'Zen achievement' was (rightly) shattered when I saw how my sense of peace was completely replaced by anger after just 2 nights without a decent sleep. -It felt a bit like being slapped in the face by a wet fish but, had I not made those remarks in the forum, I might never have been made aware of one of my major failings.

It is my contention, therefore, that, far from banishing the  'feelings that anyone might have about any topic', if we actively seek to explore and learn from the feelings that are held among the group we might achieve some personal development and more easily detach from views that can be seen to be wrong when actively expressed by ourselves or others.

Thus my attitude is, actually, far from negative in this respect.

I hope that this helps make things clearer. I await comment and possible correction from the forum community.
