Re-installing shortly...
I did an echo of ZENHOME to make sure that I hadn't typoed the confing file or whatnot, which would also should have shown in the output file if I had... Basically, none of the simple answers to the simple problem seem to pan out.
Will update. Thanks again for your attention and patience, it is much apprecaited.

Nah, UNIX doesn't differentiate between / and // in the path.
