Thanks!  I did do the echo routine looking for oddities, but didn't actaully note the location of the '.' before DBAN'ing and starting over.

I am pleased to report that zenoss install is proceeding at this time!!!

This time I cut and pasted from the install.txt file, as opposed to typing it again into .bashrc, and used the latest svn...

Thank you all for you attention to this issue, I sincerely appreciate it.  Hopefully my next issue will already be addressed so I can read up on it, or of more 'merit' when I ask.

Again, thanks everyone,
Brandon

If this is the exact error message, it would look like ZENHOME has an

)nable to write to $ZENHOME (/usr/local/zenoss

I say this because the trailing paren was added to the begining of the
line - this error message appears to actually be:

unable to write to $ZENHOME(/usr/local/zenoss"CR")   but the "CR" put you
back at the beginning of the line.

Try this:
echo $ZENHOME"."
you should see /usr/local/zenoss.
if, instead, you see .usr/local/zenoss this is your problem.

Re-installing shortly...

I did an echo of ZENHOME to make sure that I hadn't typoed the confing file
or whatnot, which would also should have shown in the output file if I
had...  Basically, none of the simple answers to the simple problem seem to
pan out.

Will update.  Thanks again for your attention and patience, it is much
apprecaited.

Nah, UNIX doesn't differentiate between / and // in the path.
