Frank,

The section you point to is describing layer-3 topology monitoring not a generalized dependency system (for use with services or devices). This will come soon but I can't say it will make it into 1.2 although I would really like to get it in there!

Hi Zenoss users,

I am currently undertaking a project to evaluate the available open source network monitoring projects with the eventual goal being a robust, low-cost, and flexible replacement for my company's expensive NNM/Netcool/Impact system.

Besides the aforementioned characteristics, one of my major requirements is inherent support for dependency at both the host and service level.

I currently have an instance of Zenoss 1.1.0 running on a dev box and despite a couple hours of searching through forums, FAQs, wikis, and the Zenoss web GUI I am unable to find a way to configure "Dependency Tracking."

In the feature list (http://www.zenoss.com/product/ features#availability), "Dependency Tracking" is listed with the comment that it "Intelligently suppress tests and alerts based on layer 3 network dependencies."

I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction (docs or short example).

Thanks,
Frank
