Hi everyone,
I'm a newcomer to Zenoss, so please forgive. I've tried to search
through all of the archives to answer the following questions (and
have found some information) but nothing clear and concise.
Coming from the pure Nagios/Cacti world, I'm trying to reduce the
amount of monitoring apps that we have to run to get the job done.
Zenoss looks to be the right thing, except for one major issue: The
ability to have custom views or reports.
In Cacti, I had a few "trees" that allowed me to put multiple graphs
for metrics that are critical to the regular operation of our
facility. While notifications on thresholds are very valuable, the
ongoing trend analysis for large numbers of systems are just as
important. For example, we have 10 HVAC units on our computer room
floor and we really like to be able to see, at a glance, how the
entire HVAC plant is functioning. I've got the right (custom!) graphs
being generated in the Perf tab with Zenoss, but we really need to
see all of the different devices at the same time.
I understand that it's quite a bit of custom hacking with the Zope
interface to do what I need- I've gathered that much. *How* to do
that, however, is not outlined with respect to the Zenoss system. The
Administration PDF docs say something to the effect of "we'll write
this section in the future", so there's little help there.
Does anyone have any how-tos, wikis, or other documentation online
with respect to customization of zenoss/zope to give a cacti-esque
view? I figured it would be a "report" kind of thing, but any input
is appreciated.
Thanks so much!
