In the install directions, you need to download a separate file to handle the 
dependencies.  That file (zenoss-deps-el4.i386.tar.bz2) includes the mysql 
files you are likely getting errors on if you run an rpm without the --nodeps 
switch.  You may want to also double check perms on /tmp.  I had a problem with 
too restrictive permissions killing the install.
