Yes 8582 is the PPID, and no it does not always stay the same hence the issue with monitoring it.
Just using MailScanner:.* will match all the instances, but the problem comes when the state of the message changes. Zenoss detects this and throws a warning alert that the process is no longer running. I understand what is happening, but there seems to be no way to say; Just check for instance of MailScanner:.* and if something there all is okay, and basically disregard everything else after the .*.
