Thanks so much for you reply "netdata". I don't think you understand when I say I am "New" to network management and in particular zenoss.
I don't understand what you mean by doing snmpwalk -v1 -c public IP-OF-SERVER I know there is a snmpwalk in the menu and I can do it for devices I have already added but where do I run this command to get the output for a device I haven't added yet? As in do I run it on the console for the host I am trying to monitor or the zenoss console. I have no idea? is there any article or forum that you can point to that shows step by step how to add a device that is on a seperate network? In the admin guide it only goes as far as adding devices, I had hoped adding a remote device would be as simple as enabling snmp on it and adding the public ip of the device under device name in zenoss. that obviously didn't work. note: if it is any help i have enabled port 161 udp in my firewall. Once again thanks for you help. netdata wrote: > Maybe I can help you: > > I have 3 physical interfaces a user LAN, Mgmnt LAN, data/storage LAN > > Can you do a 'ip route' ? > > What if you do a: > > snmpwalk -v1 -c public IP-OF-SERVER > > Do you get any results? > > if not please do a: > > tcpdump host IP-OF-SERVER > > and do a snmpwalk again. > > If this all works and you get any results of snmpwalk then it should work in > zenoss also. > > Please keep us posted -------------------- m2f -------------------- Read this topic online here: http://community.zenoss.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=14995#14995 -------------------- m2f -------------------- _______________________________________________ zenoss-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.zenoss.org/mailman/listinfo/zenoss-users
