Or they'll just not reply at all...I'm finding more and more that my posts seem
to go unanswered. I used to post a lot (well, at least I was vocal) on the
forum here, but then I began to notice that my posts about what I and others
saw as serious production issues would be completely ignored while development
went ahead on some feature enhancement request. Seriously...there are some big
bugs in the code that need to get ironed out (RPC_S_CALL_FAILED, Maintenance
Windows, bad / weird RPMs, zenperfsnmp blowing up on upgrade, blahblahblah),
but apparently Google Maps is more important. (No, I'm not bitter...) The
solutions always offered up are 1) fix it yourself and contribute back (great
idea and I fully support it, I just don't have the time), or 2) fork over the
money for support (also a great idea, these guys need to get paid, too!).

Well, JMU just purchased 2 support contracts; one for my side of the house and
one for Networking (we have two separate Zenoss instances). I guess we'll see
if it was worth it.

I apologize in advance for this rant. I don't like ranting, but seeing a major
production issue languish for 8 months and through--what, 5 releases?--has
finally caught up with me. (I can not manually put any device in maintenance
mode and be certain that it will still be in that state after an automated
maintenance window. Seeing as how we have a Sunday morning maintenance window
for server reboots, this means that every device will go back into "production"
every Sunday at 4am.) I wouldn't be so agitated if this were the only issue,
but there seems to be a growing list of show-stopping bugs that are taking a
backseat to happy-fun add-on features.

P.S. Don't let any of this lead you to believe that I don't think very highly
of Zenoss as a product or as a company; I wouldn't have pushed to buy support
otherwise. I believe in the product and where it's headed; I just want to make
sure it actually gets there.
