this is becoming supremely frustrating. i have a farm of 16 servers that run ruby mongrels. each server has 14 instances of the mongrel running. a maintenance restart of the mongrels took place this morning. they were out for a few seconds, then all restarted. i received alerts for all of them. i acknowledged all the alerts. the process *are* running. but no - zenoss is convinced that various and sundry instances are not running, and just keeps on alerting me. i've restarted zenprocess to try and get it to stop acting braindead. no luck. wait a few minutes, i get new alerts.
what magic am i missing? why does zenoss keep reporting that the processes are down when they are up, very clearly and obviously up? if i remodel *just one* of my servers, the alerting stops. of course, there's the annoyance that the first remodel causes it to show zero OS processes, so i have to remodel twice in order for it to restore the appropriate OS processes to monitor. i realize that as a community zenoss user, i have little place to complain - it's like the old david letterman joke - 'how much did you pay to get in??' - nevertheless, we would like to be able to move away from nagios to the far more sophisticated world of zenoss for our monitoring and alerting, but as it stands right now, i can't pull the trigger. and yes, we may eventually become a paying customer. i realize that carrot only goes so far of course - meaningless until the cash is on the barrelhead. but we won't become a paying customer if we wind up having to abandon what we've built so far with zenoss (and the few hundred hours i've put into it, as the project lead).... sorry for the bitchfest. that said, we checked out groundwork, hyperic, zabbix, and found zenoss to be the best choice - though i should say, the best 'compromise' - none are perfect, but perfection as we know is hard to attain. -------------------- m2f -------------------- Read this topic online here: http://community.zenoss.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=21512#21512 -------------------- m2f -------------------- _______________________________________________ zenoss-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.zenoss.org/mailman/listinfo/zenoss-users
