Yes they were in fact in the /Devices/Discovered class. 

Deleting or moving individual devices seems to work for the most part with an 
occasional error moving multiple items created the same error.  I was able to 
replicate this error twice with two clean installs. Still the mostly blank 
device list, and installed Zenpack discrepancy between the web interface and 
Zenoss shell are still strange bugs. I will try this again though as per your 
suggestion.

Interestingly enough I have another server running RHEL 5 that was Zenoss 2.1 
upgraded to 2.2 that is not having any issues whatsoever. I have quite a large 
number of Zenpacks installed there of varying versions...although mostly 
installed from zip and RPM.

For now I am not installing any Zenpacks in egg format or otherwise on either 
of my installs. I also may go back to 2.1 for one of my installs as this is 
almost a showstopper since I never had this issue with that version.
