You can trigger an event by setting a threshold. Create a new threshold in the 'Performance Template' and select your size Data Point in the multi select list. Set the Min and/or Max value and pick an event class (possibly create your own specific one, which could then initiate an action). Once the size goes over/under that threshold an event gets created. That way you shouldn't really need to compare the previous value with the current one, since you can control an event/action through the threshold.
