Hi. I'm very new to both Zenoss and SNMP, so if there's a document I should be
reading, please direct me to it.
I have a web "server" that I am using temporarily, for development purposes.
It's a Mac OS X Client, version 10.5.6. The SNMP daemon (Net-SNMP) is running,
and
Code:
snmpwalk -c public -On localhost .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
succeeds, yielding the configured values. Running the same command (changing
the host name) from another machine also succeeds, and looks as expected.
Our Zenoss 2.3 instance, which had been pointed at the MOSXC machine before I
had SNMP turned on, does not report SNMP as up. The page for
/Devices/Server/Darwin/<myhost> shows Component Type / Other / snmp with a red
light.
I've gone to the Edit tab, and corrected the community string, clicking the
Save button when I was done. I've changed snmpd.conf as directed in Appendix A
of the Admin manual, and sent a HUP signal to snmpd -- my changes show up in
snmpwalk. I should note that snmpd.conf started with the results of the
snmpconf tool.
The previous Zenoss event, "snmp agent down," was acknowledged before I did any
of the SNMP work (including saving the Edit Device page). For the device, Last
Change is when I clicked Save on the edit page, Last Collection is the
beginning of the UNIX epoch, and First Seen is the time the device was created.
Going by what I learned from searching this forum for "SNMP troubleshooting," I
have increased zSnmpTries to 5, and zSnmpTimeout to 10. I don't see any effect.
I don't have shell access to the Zenoss host.
Is this simply a matter of getting Zenoss to try again? How would I do that?
I've reached the end of what I can do by bluffing, so I'd be grateful for a
pointer to what I should do next.
