Thanks for the reply, I am currently using SNMP to monitor bandwidth. My only problem now is that there is a device on my network that does not use SNMP. But it does use syslog.
I guess the question I was asking is kind of open ended as you inadvertently pointed out to me. I should not be trying to figure out if syslog can be useg for bandwidth monitoring. I should be trying to figure out if my device sends bandwidth stats using syslog. If anyone else has any more input or suggestions i would be happy to hear them.
