I install Jaunty Server, in that process, when it asks for a user name, I put zenoss, so when my basic install of the OS is done I already have my zenoss user.
then I add: deb http://dev.zenoss.org/deb main stable to /etc/apt/sources.list and do sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install zenoss-stack I then edit the .bashrc file of the zenoss user to put the path information required do a few other install, i.e. firefox and java, then restart the machine and zenoss is up and running. Never had an issue, and considering I was a total noob with both ubuntu and zenoss, the process was surprisingly painless. I have documented every step of the install that I do, contact me directly if you want to compare notes.
