Solved! -- My problem was not enough ram. I had around 230MB free ram and no swap which was not enough to complete installation. I now upgraded the VPS to 512MB of ram, which also wasn't enough.
But after killing freeswitch/apache/bind/postfix/postgres and a few other daemons, it finally installed with 512Mb ram, thanks!
