The article is a bit misguided as it presents OpenMAMA and AMQP as alternatives. Technically, they are not: Each is living at different layer of the stack, moreover, one is an API and implementation, other one is a wire protocol. They can well be used together. It may be right though, in that OpenMAMA may be used to endow proprietary messaging solutions (see the grey boxes here: http://www.openmama.org/developers/architecture) with the gleam of openness.
