Express News Service

Patiala, May 28: THE Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to go it alone in the next assembly elections in Punjab. This was announced by Narinder Kashyap, MLC from Uttar Pradesh, who is in charge of the party affairs for Punjab. He has been on a tour of the state for four days.
Addressing partymen today, Kashyap said that in view of the forthcoming assembly elections the party leadership had undertaken a massive exercise to mobilise party rank and file.

He said that the party had come to the conclusion that the Dalits and the downtrodden had always been exploited by different political parties who ignored their interests once they came to power.
In view of this the party leadership had decided that the BSP should go it alone in the Punjab assembly elections so that it could form a government on its own strength.
With a view to strengthening the party at the grassroot level it had been decided to set up party units at the village level. Simultaneously it had been decided to start enrolment of party workers and this work was likely to be completed shortly.
Kashyap said that the BSP had also decided that it should open its membership for people belonging to different castes and creeds with a view to making it a truly democratic and secular political outfit. He said that his party favoured reservation on the criterion of those living below the poverty line irrespective of caste or creed.
Avtar Singh Karimpuri, president of the Punjab unit of the BSP, on this occasion took the ruling Congress government in Punjab to task on the issue of law and order.
He said that the law and order situation in the state was deteriorating and atrocities by the police on downtrodden and the deprived had increased.
The state BSP leader said that the Amarinder Singh government had failed on all fronts. Citing an example, he said that in this sultry weather the government had miserably failed on the power front.
