Malas to resist categorisation

Amalapuram, Feb. 16: The Mala Mahanadu vowed to oppose any move by the government to enact legislation on categorisation of SCs into A, B, C, D groups, even at the cost of the lives of its leaders. In a meeting held here on Thursday, Mahanadu State president Karem Sivaji was critical of the Congress government for following the footsteps of its predecessor, the  Telugu Desam on the reservation issue, and added that their activists would not allow Congress leaders to enter villages, as when PCC president K. Keshava Rao was gheraoed in Visakhapatnam recently.
Alleging that all upper caste political parties were making moves for categorisation of SCs, he said that they were making efforts to strengthen the Republican Party founded by Dr B.R. Ambedkar, and added that in the coming local body elections, their party would field candidates to contest against mainstream political parties.
In order to strengthen the movement of the Malas, Mala Mahanadu would organise a padayatra led by its State secretary M. Chinna Rao, from Srikakulam on February 20, he said, and added that the yatra would continue to Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts and culminate in a public meeting in Visakhapatnam on February 26.
Mr Sivaji also said that Mala Mahanadu leaders were taking up a Chalo Delhi programme on February in order to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to find out their stand on the SC reservation issue. To rake up support for their move, Lok Janasakthi president Ram Vilas Paswan was mobilising the support of all MPs opposing the categorisation of SCs, he said, and called it unfortunate the publication of handbills attacking the character of local MP G.V. Harsha Kumar and Mamidikuduru MLA Pinepe Viswaroop.
