sorry about taking so long to reply, but we are all busy folk and I know excuses are unnecessary. I am certain that running a mail-based discussion forum must be quite taxing and you have to work according to the rules you make for yourself. You are right when you say that comments like �wow�, �great job�, �keep it up�, �thanks for sharing� etc are pretty meaningless and do not give me any kind of a high either.
I like discussing poems in detail and I want to know if I am allowed to mention things I like or don�t like about a posted poem. Many people consider their poems finished products and may not like presumptuous comments from me. Suppose a poem is good enough, but suffers from bad alliteration, or boring adjectives, or clich�d images, or too self-consciously �poetic� diction, am I allowed to say so? (All very politely, of course). This is, as we know, extremely subjective and we all have our own yardsticks when it comes to what is �good� or �bad� in poetry.
However, I have seen that passably good poems have become excellent ones with a little help from people who care sufficiently to do intimate readings of poems that are obviously close to the creators� hearts.
Finally, I want to know how this group defines itself. As a place where members: (a) just share stuff that they have written, (b) want to discuss poetry by mmm�published(?) poets, (c) want to become better poets in a collaborative, helpful environment, (d) all of the above and some more.
I�d love to get some responses.
