Hi! I am Subbarayudu, SUBBU for short,and have been with Zestpoets for about an year and a half. Been very silent all this wjhile. May I say something now? I agree with River (Nitoo) that a more detailed response to the posted poems is necessary. It will be subjective, of course, but not opinionated at all. Yes, one can point out where and how a poem might be improved -- being 'polite' should mean only that the manner and the language are not personally hostile, NOT that harsh judgements be avoided. Good, analytic criticism of a poem is neither politely appreciative nor summarily dismissive. A combative argument that is substantial is as significant as an expression of deep appreciation. Objectionability enters into the domain of the discussion only if the language is uncivil and the approach is condescending.I do not believe that the moderator will be put to any difficulty on this count. So detailed critiquing should be welcome to everyone. As for Monica's problem with 'poetics' let me just say that a sensitive response generally does very well in place of a technically sound one -- though, certainly a fine blend is valuable -- so that a response which exhibits sufficient togetherness with the poem is more than adequate. I do hope that the group will begin to discuss the posted poems with this spirit of 'togetherness' with the poems. Best. SUBBU, Hyderabad
