If the correct driver shows up, then you should be set.

Plug in the printer cable to the Printer Port on the 6214 (power off,
of course!), turn on the printer and the 6214, select the printer
in the Chooser, try to print something.

Ok, that's the driver I've got, but it doesn't want to print through it, even though I have the printer on...

Any idea what "broke" the ethernet connection? New router or switch
in the mix? Upgraded OS? Odd behavior, so something must have changed.

I can't remember for sure if it ever worked on the network, I *thought* it did, but I might be wrong... I know for sure it connected directly to Sympatico, and connected to another machine through a regular hub to transfer files...

No, it must have been on the network, because I know I connected without Access Manager, and have no idea how I got it to work in the first place... So it should be fine with the same equipment, only thing I did was move it and leave it sit for a while without doing anything...can a port just die on you like that?

Now, if you get an error that the printer port is in use, probably by
Appletalk you can either, shut down and connect the printer to the modem
port and go back to step one, but select the modem port this time. Or, if
you are not going to network this computer, you can turn off Appletalk. You
could also open the AppleTalk Control Panel and switch your AppleTalk
connection to the modem port or remote only if that is available. If you
plan on using LocalTalk to network your 6214 you should put the printer in
the modem port and leave AppleTalk connecting through the printer port.

Unfortunately, I know squat about AppleTalk, and thought that had been how the printer was communicating with the computer, which was confusing when it said it was busy on one of them, because I thought it was busy doing what it was supposed to do...

The 2400 does not do AppleTalk, although you can share it through your 6214
it must be connect with a serial cable. If this doesn't get your printer
connected you may want to check that cable. Does it have printer Icons on
it? If not it may not be Mac compatible, though I have a couple cables that
are not so marked.

Are there any other uses for cables of that shape other than with Macs? It's not marked with anything, it's just the right size and has the right number of pins to connect the two together.

I'm not currently trying to network anything with anything, so what do I need in the way of AppleTalk and LocalTalk to get just the printer and the computer communicating with each other?

I also have a...6300, I think, with no ethernet card and the modem port blocked off because there's another modem in there, which is running 8.0 and also has no desire to use the printer as-is, I don't have an 8 install CD (will an upgrade to 8.1 downloaded from Apple help any?)), and a Classic (system 7) and a Classic II (really can't remember what it's running...maybe 6?). What I'm really trying to do right now is see if the printer has any use to me at all, else I'll heave it, so if it'd be better for me to hook it up to another machine to test it out, if anything else is even compatible with it, I can try that instead...
