I'm not sure 8.6 came as full install on cd, it might have for later machines. If you have or can get an 8.5 cd I believe the 8.6 update is on the Apple site where the older legacy stuff lives. >From what you have said (ext & cp issues) it's likely you need to do some disk maintenance. Disk First Aid & rebuild the desktop. Have you tried using the OS Base or OS All ext set? Do you have an OS 8 install cd?
