Interesting. AFAIK, it's running in default mode - I haven't had a .telnetrc on this or any of the hosts that I've experienced this on. Trying to disable telnet's LINEMODE explicitly (setting "mode character" in a .telnetrc) doesn't seem to change things, either. I don't know enough about telnet's protocol to understand what's going on here.
