At this moment, Asterisk behind a NAT can't connect to an outside SIP provider. If you put asterisk outside your NAT, your inside clients can connect to Asterisk and Asterisk will be able to connect to your providers.
Not true.
My asterisk server(s) are behind NAT, and I am a customer of Vonage (thrice-over), iconnecthere, and Net2Phone.
There are still some rough edges (especially with iconnecthere) but overall it is not correct to say that they won't work.
