Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> My 328i seems to be bending a lot of wheels. Now at the outset, I realize I live in the pothole capital of the northeast, but I haven't had this much problem with other cars. My stock 15" wheels bent, then a set of 18" wheels bent (no huge surprise here), now another set of 17" wheels are bent. What strikes me as strange is the fact that I've had several cars with 17' and 18" wheels, and never had a problem. These wheels aren't particularly light-weight wheels either. Mayby it is the stiffer than normal BMW suspension (though my mustang certainly had stiffer springs than my stock E36)?? Just wondering if this is a common issue. Thanks, -Paul __________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger Show us what our next emoticon should look like. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Higher tire inflation helps. Try 40 psi. What springs and shocks do you have. If the springs are lowered, and you have Bilsteins, the problem is limited suspension travel. Gary Derian > My 328i seems to be bending a lot of wheels. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I second the notion about tire pressure. I have had 2 E36's with 15", 16", and 17" wheels, and no bent wheels yet over a 10 yr time. Always keep 34-35lbs in tires. BTW, I live in the Northeast also-near Boston-so no shortage of potholes. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> No shortage of potholes here in MN, either. I bent by 1st wheel a couple months ago on a huge pothole (in 12 years of MN driving). One of the E36 16" sport pkg wheels that I use with winter tires (I have 17's for summer). I've heard of others having problems, but I haven't. My wife's car has 17 winter tires, no problem there (not BMW though, Acura TSX). Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> What tire pressures are you using? Factory sticker pressures, "the lawyer's suspension", as described to me by a past BMWNA exec, do not give sufficient protection to the wheels. I set 'Jack's 17"s to 40+ psi front/ 36+ rear. May be a bit firm for some of you but the handling is better and I haven't bent a rim on a BMW in two decades as long as the tires pressures are high. hth, Barry > -----Original Message----- > From: M Kittock [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [UUC] E36 and bent wheels, anyone else having this problem?? > No shortage of potholes here in MN, either. I tried to rent it from Brett Anderson, but he told me not to bother, the bearing should come off by hand--it did. The only tool you will need is a 46mm (E36 M3 and E46 fronts, I don't know what size you will need for an E30) socket. I bought an impact socket from Pelican parts but the OD was too large to fit inside the wheel bearing. I ground about .200" off the OD using a bench grinder and a little "jig" that allowed me to rotate the socket. It was a PITA, you can buy the correctly sized socket from http://www.ultimategarage.com/. The rears are a different matter altogether. You do need the tool, you can just rent it from http://www.koalamotorsport.com/ unless you are planning on making a hobby out of rear wheel bearing replacements. -- Jamie Howton 2000 M5 1995 M3 Hampshire, IL ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Apr 2005 11:44:57 -0500 From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <bmwuucdigest@uucdigest.com> Subject: WTB borbet wheel Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Looking for 1 (one) 17" Borbet Type T wheel For an E30 M3. Wheels are the rounded 5-spoke design (style 18), and come complete with Michelin Pilot SX 225/50-16 tires. The wheels will fit just about any non-M E36 3-series, including Ti and Z3. Probably also fit E46 (at least 323i, 325i and 328i). Wheels are almost perfect, and indistinguishable from new: no curb rash, no dings, no scratches. The tires have around 25k miles on them, with 6/32" tread remaining on all 4. I'm asking $450. Shipping, if required, will be at cost from 19301. Martin Bullen '95 M3 '97 Z3 2.8 P.S. I also still have 3 Bridgestone Potenza RE730 tires, 225/45-17 that I'm looking to sell. Tires are in good shape, with no plugs or repairs. 6/32 tread remaining (original was around 10/32, so they have about 1/2 of their useable tread remaining). Asking $50 each or $90 for a pair or $130 for all three, plus shipping from 19301. ------------------------------ End of [bmwuucdigest] digest(10 messages) **********
