Yes it is normal for some e36 ms to have cold start problems. Code update may
or may not help.

Is it normal for the M3 ('99) to be temperamental when cold. That is, it
stumbles and seems to occasionally miss first thing on morning startup.
Once warmed it idles perfectly and revs fine.
Time for new plugs?

Reverse curve? Hate to tell you, Rob, but the fork was upside down. If
you hadn't had so much sake, you would have been able to figure out that
you just needed to turn it over. :^)

Yeah, I thought about that... except the tines would have been pointing at

Sake? I was having the cranberry-and-seltzer girl drinks.

Last summer I picked up a 98 Suburban K1500 350 gas for about $10K (85K
miles) along with a 24" closed trailer (not part of that price). I drove it
back from SC to IL - got about 9 mpg with a 3000# car in the trailer, it
gets about 14 without the trailer. It was marginal going thru the mountains
but fine on the flatlands. Since then I've pulled a car on an open trailer
with it, and comparatively, it felt like there was nothing back there. The
wind load on a closed trailer is incredible. If you don't really need a
closed trailer for what you are doing, avoid it.

Only issues with the Suburban - apparently they are notorious for leaky
intake gaskets ($40 and about 6 hours to fix) and the brakes are a bit light
for towing the mountains. Typical GM oil leaks too. Ceramic brakes were a
good upgrade.

With all the current new-car giveaways and the state of gas prices, they are
pretty cheap.

You may want to look at a 1997-1999 Chevy or GMC Suburban 1500 or 2500.
You should find one for under $12k with good miles.Makes a great tow vehicle
(long wheelbase) with tons of room for tires and tools when the seats are
folded down and removed.
The only mod I made was installing a transmission cooler.

Agreed. AC and headlights both will bump the idle. AC more, but both will
do it.

Why?

Expansion valve is not effected by the refrigerant.

You got 12 months extra service out of the part, and paid what you would
have during the conversion, to have it replaced 12 months later. Or your
shop has a $25/hr labour rate....

No way we'd change out an E30 expansion valve for $200 with parts, labour
and AC evac/recharge. With current pricing, that'd be closer to $400.

I know many people in California who got red light tickets and just tossed
them in the trash (and just like jury duty notices) they go away since the
government does not have time to follow up on them and are happy that some
people pay (like they are happy that some people show up for jury duty).

In almost a year my friends who travels to Australia and Britain have
stopped getting letters asking they to pay the speed camera tickets and have
not had a charge from the rental firm show up on their bills. It seems like
the speed or red light tickets go with the driver while parking or toll
violations go with the car.

P.S. I have a friend who travels to NY and NJ on business often and he says
that he always sticks a piece of tape over part of his rental car license
plate so he can drive through EZ pass toll lanes without paying....

Here's a question for the parents in the crowd (off-list replies are fine
since this isn't the normal power/suspension upgrade question):

Can any of you tell me which car seat(s) you have found to work or not work
well in 3-series BMWs? We currently have a 1995 (E36) M3 Coupe and are
looking hard at E46 330 sedans. My wife is expecting our first this fall so
we're currently picking up baby gear. I understand that not all seats work
well in all cars and would be very interested in recommendations or BTDT
thoughts.

Thank you,

Kevin
