Their output dithers between about 0.2 volts and 0.6 volts in response to the dithering fuel mixture. Either they are consistently too low or consistently too high. Either the sensors are bad or the fuel mix is bad. Considering you mucked about with your fuel system, it would not surprise me if the fuel mixture was off in some ranges. Is this OBD II or OBD I? Monitor the O2 sensor outputs with a DVOM. I don't know if that is what makes the flasher sound, but you could try removing that and seeing if the sound goes away. Last weekend, I went to start the car and the ignition key moved to "Run" and froze. It would turn backwards or forwards. I left the car overnight, returned the next day and I eventually pulled the ignition switch off the lock assembly and the key started turning again. The car still wouldn't start (switch moved to "Start" but the starter never engaged). I found I could jump the starter position and get the car running, so I think the switch is bad. So far, OK. But, the odd part is that, when the car does start now, it idles extremely low, probably under 300 RPM according to the tach. This means the engine has a tendency to die when I come to a stop with the clutch in, or when I turn on the AC. Any ideas on what has happened to the idle? Surely, it can't be related to the ignition switch, or can it? Thanks! You may have read about 5erFests in Bimmer mag, the Roundel, or elsewhere. It is a gathering of E12 and E28 enthusiasts that, this year, brought over 200 people and nearly 200 cars to the Zentrum in SC. The event lasts about 4 days, with an autocross, track time if possible, a concours, tech sessions and other fun stuff like sitting around with beer and admiring each others' cars. <http://www.5erfest2005.org> for info on the last event. The 5erFest team is hoping to hold the '06 Fest in the Indianapolis area. If you are or know of people local to Indy who are BMW enthusiasts, E28 or otherwise, CCA members or otherwise, who would be willing to provide local information and perhaps assist in some logistical work, please reply to me at this address. Even passing on the names and e-mails of folks who wouldn't mind being contacted would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much! 5erFest has grown into an excellent event, and though only E12/E28s can be in the show, all BMW enthusiasts are welcome to attend and share in the fun. Does it need 4,000 rpm before it comes alight ? Or 5k ? . Where are the weaknesses -gearbox? Driveline ? Diff? , suspension components ? Were Recaro-style seats stock ? ..yada yada ...
