Wife's sister just bought out the lease on her E46, and now needs a good
independant in Dallas (just north of Downtown is best). Stealer quoted her
$1200 for brakes; I promised I'd find her another option. Any advise would be
appreciated.

Celisa:

Let me guess, do you also chipped paint on the front of the hood?

If so, that would suggest that maybe you are following too close. The cars
in front kick up little rocks, they don't like flying into fog lights by
themselves. If you leave a 2 second following distance, you won't have this
problem.

Mine do help, but not so much as fog lights, though they are better than some.
I have mine adjusted slightly higher than should be for pure fog use, but not
so high as to drive most oncoming drivers bonkers. I do however have them
aimed out, the right is aimed right, the left, left...as cornering lights. I
find that on our rural roads that when I dip from highbeams and have the
fog/corner lights on with the low beams I get much better edge light and can
spot fauna much better and 99% of oncoming drivers never give me the blink, so
they must not be to hard on them.

Same here. I use mine more for cornering lights as well. It
definitely helped after switching from sealed beams to US spec
ellipsoids.

Good point. I never see those around and so tend not to think of them. Due
to the pointer it might be tricky to apply force part way down the beam on
one of those though.

According to Wikipedia:

"The mullet's origins are shrouded in mystery. Urban legends have it dating
back to 19th Century fishermen, who wore their hair long in the back to keep
warm - hence the term mullet."

Kevin, you are correct. I carry liability-only on our E30s, but Tom's
M5 conversion (when I was looking at it 3 years ago) was priced in a
range where I'd want collision and comprehensive. Everyone's
threshold of loss is different, potentially.
