Hah - BTDT! The forward connector at the head is for the rear bank of
cylinders (4-6) and vice-versa. Not what you'd necessarily expect.

If you get it wrong very odd things ensue. The ECU tries to adjust fuel trim
for a given cylinder bank but doesn't get the expected result (since it's
monitoring the other bank), so then it adjusts some more, and so on.

The result is that with the ECU memory cleared the car runs decently, but
the more you drive the worse it gets, until it's throwing CE lights all over
the place.
