In thinking more about this, why would it NOT work with GetProfileString, but worked immediately when I used an XML file? If it was saving the class files, it should have missed the XML too, no?

I hate to ask obvious questions - are you sure you don't have trusted cache or something stuck in your server's cache?  Since it didn't throw anything on the onRequestXX() method - it sounds like a cached file is being used.
