Can you post your INI file or some code? I'd like to toy with it.

FWIW, the problem came up again today, this time in an application.cfm file. Again, the xml files worked fine. All the application-scoped variables in the .ini file were created, but all were empty strings. It seems like there's some bug in the GetProfileString.

Wow...interesting.

Definitely post back with what you find. I'm interested in what's going on there.

Yes, they were, John. No permissions were set at all.

Very interesting. Was the XML doc and INI in the same directory? Were there permissions on the INI (or directory as a whole)?

Yes, the backdoor to reset the app (or other scopes) is crucial to most of my apps.

In thinking more about this, why would it NOT work with GetProfileString, but worked immediately when I used an XML file? If it was saving the class files, it should have missed the XML too, no?

No, Dave, I was only using it because I thought there might be some restriction on onApplicationStart. I even thought that maybe I couldn't use ExpandPath, so I hardcoded the absolute location of the file: still no luck. I tried placing the values in the application scope; I thought that might be the problem, but I see you're doing it in your code. Wow, now I'm more confused than ever! But thanks for trying to help me: I appreciate it.

I hate to ask obvious questions - are you sure you don't have trusted cache or something stuck in your server's cache?  Since it didn't throw anything on the onRequestXX() method - it sounds like a cached file is being used.
