I did, too.  I pulled the heads, intake, damn near everything that I could, before I pulled the motor.  REASON - I didn't have a cherry picker, and had to lift the motor out by hand.  It only took 4 guys, though. 2 in the engine compartment, and two outside to hand it to.  What a mess, though.  I discovered that the fluids don't all drain out, no matter what plugs ya pull, or gaskets ya remove.  It all spills out all over the garage floor when ya angle the motor out of the compartment.  ;-)

Is the motor in the car?  If so, put her in gear, and spin the balancer off.  It really should end up being an easy job.  5 Minutes max.

   Thanx for the response, Brad.
But that's where my problem lies. Once I start to turn the remover clockwise the harmonic balancer it self is still moving in a clockwise direction. So it seems as though I'm not actually tightening remover to pull the balancer off.
I've tried to wedge something between the holes on the balancer and the engine but it's in an awkward spot.
