Hi Kingsley,
The main reason we use new URIs is because we want to assert new triples
(based on the DBpedia ontology) and make this knowledge dereferencable in
the future.
Maybe we are doing something wrong (and this is why we do an early release)
but imo, it's the same reason we didn't use the Wikipedia URIs in DBpedia
in the first place.
I was also thinking of a little shorter name like data.dbpedia.org, or db ;)
Although using just dbpedia.org and moving existing English DBpedia to
en.dbpedia.org would be the best approach (that ain't gonna happen soon)
