There might be reasons to depend on gawk, but that seems irrelevant for the case at hand. Also these numbers are skewed since ‘Priority: required’ packages don't need explicit unversioned Depends. Anyway, did s/mawk/awk/ if that makes you happy… We are only using functions from the POSIX subset so any implementation should work, including busybox's. -- Guilhem.
