It has not brought us out of compliance but well, let me put it better, out
of a long-standing desire of OpenOffice to implement this particular
function with this result.

As Dennis pointed out early in this thread, this is one of several possible
outcomes for this function:

I would think changes with more far reaching implications such as this one
would first be introduced via a PROPOSAL rather than an immediate change.
