If the project users are going to be writing them, they _are_ OOo techies.
I do prefer add-ons to extensions, because even non-techie users will tend
to think "I wish OOo could do this" and think of that as an added
capability.
My suggestion would be "extras" -- it's pretty much multilingual. There
was once a site called oo extras, but it seems to have died.
However, this is the sort of quesiton that can be wrangled over for weeks
and which doesn't ul;timately matter very much. Let's make a decision on
Sunday, etiehr by tabulating votes, or with an IRC meeting.
