I also notice that the tracking will lock up anywhere +/- 25 cycles of nominal. I've heard one case where AM sync did not sound particularly good ... that's with some of the metrological voice broadcasts on WWV/WWVH. Still that appears to be a case where the sync AM is amplifying an issue at the source because the normal envelope detector does not sound very good either.
