After re-checking this I take back what I said and claim the opposite 
:-) So, it seems that 10.0 did have the binary, but no header files; 
10.1 added the header files. Phew, I hope that's correct now, sorry 
for the confusion.

The Fink zlib package mainly has been kept for backward compatibility 
in any case. Even though Apple still did not update to zlib 1.1.4 (at 
least my system has 1.1.3 still), which makes me almost think we 
maybe should have kept using our own zlib version.
