IRC topic?

According to the help, Fire supports /topic but the help isn't very... um, helpful... about how to actually execute a /topic command.

I sort of assumed that if I control-clicked on my nick and selected Action... I could enter
topic #channel new topic
or something similar. But, alas, it doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong? :(
