I don't know whether you can see the screenshots in my German FG Forum

What I could not manage until now is to see the water falling after
filling the a/c on sea as you described (used "L", enough speed and time).
When I press "l" there is a little stutter (which might be caused by the
falling-water-sim) but I cannot see anything.
I tried it with both versions of the Catalina.
It might be related to my FG version - it is OSG but not osgviewer (I
tried to compile it with --enable-osgviewer but got an error at last,
have to try it within the next days again). The "water-spray" effect is
visible but not the "falling water".
