??

The traditional view only had heading damping added, which was supposed
to make taxiing and taking off/landing easier. If the viewer "flies"
behind the aircraft, we wouldn't really expect the environment to twist
on rudder input, but rather the aircraft. The traditional
("helicopter") chase view didn't change roll =at all=. That is only
in the new "chase" view, which nobody is forced to use. But I can
of course change the helicopter view in my own configuration (just
like everybody else can maintain his own settings, independent of
the default settings).

The update that Erik made has returned the two old views. Thanks!

These are the current views in the preferences.xml:

1

2

3

4

5

6

View #2 is the one I use w/ demos. All sorts of people can handle this one because the view direction is fixed and the horizon is level --- no one gets sick.

View #6 is a small variation on the theme --- the heading angle changes w/ the direction of the airplane (w/ the UIUC airplanes it is the flight path "heading angle", not the aircraft heading angle). In doing demos, most people can handle this view.

FYI -- View #3 does not 'play' well w/ my computer (Linux w/ a GeForce4 Ti 4400 card). The screen update sometimes lags, and then jumps w/ updates. So about every 2 secs, I get a 'jerk' in the view.

I think if we start creating more views, we should *add* them and not *exchange* them (i.e. not delete an old view for a new one). I'd vote for adding them to the 'v' key and/or F1...F8 keys.

Again, thanks for the quick mods.

Regards,
Michael

OK. :-)

m.

PS: The jitter in damped chase view isn't supposed to be a feature. It's of course a bug, and I'm investigating.
