after I got this error the first time (after downloading the latest CVS source and data) I did a full recompile with
./autogen.sh; configure --prefix=/fg-cvs; make; make install
I worked around the problem by just changing the version file but this is not the solution. Trying now to make another CVS download and another recompile with deleting autom4te.cache (what has been a hint some time ago when I had other problems).
If it does *not* work I will ask again!
