Thank you for a very well written article on the ridiculous situation re the banning of the Da Vinci Code film in Goa.

For those who haven't seen the film I can say that it is sufficiently far-fetched to the extent of being ridiculous. Parts of the long film were also sufficiently boring to send me to sleep in the theatre. I therefore went to see it a second time! This time, following a strong coffee, I remained wide awake and I followed the film closely.

That so many are going to 'war' over this pretty poor film is the height of stupidity. Why on earth block others from seeing the film if one is persuaded not to view it oneself? Is this taking place in the India supposedly making inroads into economic super power status or one stuck in the dark age thoughts of the Taliban as echoed by your good self? I also would like to know about the educational background of the bloke who made the measly offer of 22 lakhs for Dan Brown's head. Was he joking or serious?

Cecil, when we met in April, you expressed some surprise that I choose not to live in Goa where I would be more than comfortable. Perhaps among the several reasons I gave you was one that I did not emphasise a little more. It is the often found, sheer parochialism, that would drive me potty. The situation on the Da Vinci Code is a classic case in point of such painful parochialism that I am most happy to avoid and I wish you could too.

Da Vinci controversy
Navhind Times Dt. 21st May

Now that our secular state has achieved the dubious distinction of being the first state in the world attempting to ban The Da Vinci Code (film, not the book), on the grounds that it is 'blasphemous', I would be interested to know if those who want it banned have even read the book since there is no question of seeing the film.
