When I first joined the SCA, I made some rudimentary costumes but never particularly enjoyed it. What I enjoy tremendously is embroidery and embellishment, which started when I was looking to learn a handcraft that wasn't hard on my arthritic hands. A friend taught me blackwork, which rocks! Since then, the arthritis has gotten a lot better with treatment, and I keep learning more medieval forms of embroidery. I also create the vast majority of my designs. Plus I have pals who love to costume, and are darned good at it. And two cats who have learned that Mama's silk threads are nothing to tamper with.
