I apologize.  I wrote too fast without understanding what you wrote. 
I even skipped over your statement in the previous post that "The 
stated priority is observed (which is why ... using a BLOCK 
CONTAINS clause with other than 0 on a COBOL input file is asking 
for problems)."  Of course you were saying that that the blocksize that 
was in the DCB is what is used.
