Dean, I have to agree with Tom. Create a Dataclass with the following: Data Set Name Type . . . . . : EXTENDED ** If Extended . . . . . . . . : REQUIRED ** Extended Addressability . . : YES ** Record Access Bias . . . . : USER *** Space Constraint Relief . . . : YES *** Reduce Space Up To (%) . . : 30 *** Dynamic Volume Count . . . : 9 *** Compaction . . . . . . . . . : YES ** ** = required *** = your values may vary Point your 4gb VSAM file to this dataclass, storage group can be the same since the file requirements will be approx. half of what they are now.
________________________________ what? Sounds like the wrong solution to me. A new storage group for one data set? what do you think that will accomplish? I think what you need to do is to define it as an extended format data set. In any case, SMS is invoked when the data set is created. -- Tom Marchant ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
